Privacy
GeoSalience collects as little personal data as a website can. This page states exactly what we process, why, and how to have it deleted.
Reading the site
Reading GeoSalience requires no account and sets no tracking cookies. We use a self-hosted, cookieless instance of Plausible Analytics served from our own infrastructure: it counts page views in aggregate and stores no persistent identifier, no cross-site profile, and no personal data. There are no advertising or social-media pixels, and no third party receives your traffic data.
Our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL) for security and capacity monitoring; they rotate automatically and are not used to profile readers. The public AI-crawler dataset on the Lab is derived from these logs with all IP addresses dropped at parse time — only aggregated bot activity is ever published.
The newsletter
If you subscribe to the newsletter, we process your email address. The controller is GeoSalience (hello@geosalience.com). The legal basis is your consent (GDPR art. 6(1)(a)), given via double opt-in: a subscription becomes active only after you click a signed, 48-hour confirmation link sent to that address, and we store the confirmation timestamp as the record of consent.
- Purpose. Sending the weekly briefing — nothing else. No profiling, no enrichment, no advertising use.
- Storage. Addresses are stored on our own server. When email delivery is enabled it is handled by Resend (our email processor); no other third party receives the address.
- Retention. We keep the address for as long as the subscription is active. Unconfirmed signups are purged; when you unsubscribe, the address is removed from the active list.
- Your rights. You can unsubscribe via the link in any issue, and you can request access to or erasure of your data at any time by emailing hello@geosalience.com. We answer within 30 days.
Everything else
We run no comment system, no login, and no embedded third-party widgets. Error monitoring, when enabled, is configured to exclude personal data. If our practices change, this page changes first — its edit history is part of the site's public repository.
